Texas Motor Speedway

June 6-8, 2019

Round #9

GENERAL INFO – The Texas Motor Speedway is the only high banked oval track the series visits. The speeds are quick and the event is furious but it usually produces quite a show. The race is held on Saturday night, making the start in the daylight, progressing through dusk and ending in darkness which is a great transition for spectators. The track is well lighted and from the front stretch grandstands, you can see around the entire track. IndyCar will share the track with the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series for the weekend.

Texas Motor Speedway has a long history with IndyCar. The fastest race was in 2015, won by Scott Dixon with an average speed of 191.940! (Cup’s fastest race was in 2012 with a speed of 160.577). The quickest and track record for qualifying is held at 222.556 by Charlie Kimball in 2017. The closest finish was in 2016. Graham Rahal beat James Hinchcliff to the checkers by 0.0080! Oval IndyCar fans love TMS!

Distinctive to TMS is “BIG HOSS” on the backstretch. It is the second largest HD-TV screen to be built, encompassing 20,633.64 square feet! From the front grandstand seating, you have the feeling that you’re at home with your big screen! Be sure to come early to check out the Fan Zone, behind the main grandstands, no ticket necessary. You’ll find a variety of commercial displays (some swag freebies) and many food and beverage vendors.

It can be very hot in Texas, so make sure you have sunscreen and a hat. Dress appropriately but there is plenty of shade in the grandstand areas. No shade in the infield. It also occasionally rains at the track, so come prepared. There is a pedestrian tunnel available most of the time from the lower level of grandstand, Section 121 to the infield near pit out by the scoring pylon. You must have a grandstand ticket and a credential to use this tunnel. Tunnel may be closed during an event. Alternative way to access the infield is to grab a free golf car shuttle from the road behind the grandstand area. You can walk to the infield, but it’s hot and a long hike.

A permanent infield building houses a Torchy’s Tacos restaurant, close to the garage area. You do not need a credential to go there. Besides being air-conditioned, it is a great place to gather with friends, enjoy a Tex-Mex menu, cold drink and bar service. And equally importantly, some of the cleanest restrooms in the track!

Free golf cart transportation is available to/from the parking areas toward admission gates, infield and credential building. To board a cart ride, walk to designated signed stops. For infield access, arrive at the road behind the gate areas. No golf cart service is available for the camping areas. The AAA Trackside Ride Fan Transportation buses will take you to and from the campgrounds, shower facilities and grandstands. You can pickup either rides at Gates 2, 4, 6 and 10 and from the Lone Star Circle by the tunnel.
