GENERAL INFO – This world class racing facility is commonly known as COTA, an abbreviation of its name.  The track hosted its first racing event in 2012 with a Formula 1 race.  It is one of two new facilities for this year’s 2019 NTT IndyCar series events.  The circuit is very modern with seating for 100,000 in grandstands!

The track itself uses about 375 acres out of a site that is about 850 acres in Southeast Austin.   Austin is the Texas State Capitol.  One of the icon landmarks at this track is an observation tower, offering prominent and spectacular view of the entire circuit.   An admission is charged to enter but recommended for one of those ‘wow’ Kodak moments!

The track is located about 9 miles from the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and about 15 miles from downtown.  Traffic is an issue in and out, so pack your patience as the ingress/egress roads aren’t quite as modern and worthy of the track.

There is also an Austin 360 Amphitheater on the premises.   A variety of entertainment is offered throughout the year including international rock sensation “Muse” that headline the Saturday night party on IndyCar weekend.

In pre-season testing, IndyCar stars tried their hand at the track twice.  Many referred to the track as challenging but gave it high marks.

One unopened bottle of water is allowed to be brought in but no coolers.  Make sure to bring sunscreen, hat or visor and dress for hot weather.  Might want to bring a small disposal rain poncho as well.  Wear comfortable shoes, as there is a lot of walking at this facility.  Smoking or vaping is only allowed in authorized areas that are 15 feet from an entrance.  No smoking is allowed within the grandstands or in the Amphitheater.

As part of the Road to Indy program, Indy Lights and Global MX-5 Cup will join INDYCAR for the weekend’s program.
