"YOU BROUGHT LIGHT AND JOY TO ALL OF US!"
My visit to AACD in Sao Paulo, by Ana Beatriz
The first Racing For Kids visit in Brazil was one of the most moving experiences of my life and one I will never forget.
After being greeted by the directors of the Assistance Association for Disabled Children in Sao Paulo, we entered the elevator for the activities center. As soon as the elevator doors opened, the Capoeiramusic started and the children began to dance. The children led me to the Capoeira circle and I sat with them and clapped during the presentation. They were so filled with joy and excitement! I was very touched by the effort they put into their performance.
After each of the children took a turn dancing, they presented me with a shirt they had signed and a darling little doll, who was wearing a cast and appears to be recovering from a broken leg!! I showed them my cast for my broken wrist and told them we had something in common.
After passing out the Racing For Kids hats, which they loved, we all danced the Samba and I signed their hats and visited with them. They are strong, brave and very joyful children. They definitely inspired me by their day-to-day struggle to adapt to their circumstances and try to lead independent lives.
Afterwards, the kids sent me a note that I will cherish. It read in part – “You brought us light and joy! You are a champion already. God bless you!
To me, the children of AACD are the real champions!
